The Roman Emperor Lucius Aurelius Commodus Antoninus who ruled from 180 to 192. Commodus was the first emperor "born to the purple" i.e. born during his father Marcus Aurelius's reign. In recent popular culture Commodus was the main antagonist of the Gladiator movie, the Academy award-winner for best picture. This beautiful bronze Roman statue stands firmly on a metal sheet base.
